Welcome to Costa Rica for a family adventure in paradise. Upon arrival, your day is free to take a dip in the hotel's pool or set off to explore San Jose on your own. Visit a butterfly farm, an art museum, or simply enjoy a meal together at a local restaurant.

San Jose - Tortuguero National Park
Meet your fellow travelers this morning at awelcome breakfast as your Tour Manager briefs you about all the exciting things ahead. Then, set off for the Caribbean Coast and the remote Tortuguero National Park, a special reserve

accessible only by airplane or boat. Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica's most popular parks, protecting eleven different habitats. Transfer by boat to your lodge, making your way through winding canals - and play a great game of "I Spy" as you try to spot some of the 57 species of reptiles that call Tortuguero home! Arrive at your eco-lodge, the perfect backdrop for your jungle adventure, complete with a pool, games and space to explore. This afternoon, learn about the nesting habits of the local Green Sea Turtles during a visit to the Green Turtle Research Station. Walk with your guide out to the beach* to see where Green Sea Turtles nest. Tonight, gather with your fellow travelers to enjoy a delicious meal. Today, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

Tortuguero National Park
Venture out this morning to explore the surrounding jungle during a guided nature walk - make sure you bring your camera and binoculars since you are sure to spot some of the local monkeys, sloths and birds of the region! Enjoy a leisurely lunch before embarking on a spectacular boat cruise through the various canals and be sure to keep an eye out for the wildlife as well as |
exotic flora. Return to the lodge for some leisure time before dinner. Today, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be included.

Tortuguero National Park - Sarapiquí
Travel through jungle canals to the lush rainforest village of Sarapiquí. Arrive at a beautiful eco-lodge - your home for the next two nights. This evening visit the La Tirimbina Biological Reserve for an interactive discussion and discover the important role that bats - who make up almost 50% of the mammal population in Costa Rica - play in the ecosystem of the rainforest. Sarapiquí
This morning, journey through the rainforest to a cacao plantation and see firsthand how the cacao bean becomes chocolate! Air rate and schedule are applicable for groups of 10 or more traveling on the same flights and dates.
Taxes/fees to be paid in local currency or USD upon exiting the country are approximately $32 USD per person.
Due to luggage size and weight restrictions on the boats, please bring an overnight bag for the two night stay in Tortuguero National Park. Your main luggage stays in San Jose and joins you upon your return to the mainland.
Parties of three will be accommodated in all hotels in two queen beds. Parties of four will be accommodated in all hotels in two queen beds. Rollaway beds are available at all hotels upon request only and cannot be guaranteed.
Children under 18 must be booked in a rom with at least one adult.
If you are traveling with a child on this Collette Family Vacation it is your sole responsibility to ensure that the child follows all safety rules of the tour.
Hotel check-in on your day of arrival is 3:00 PM. Rooms may not be available prior to that time.
*Green Turtles only nest from very late June to mid-September; if you are traveling outside these dates you will not be able to see the nesting beach habitat. Due to very strict government guidelines, visiting the turtle's nesting grounds is not recommended for children under 4.
**The school is normally closed from mid-December to mid-February for the summer school vacation and on national holidays. |
***Children under 18 must be accompanies by an adult during the choice of activity on Day 7.
Depending upon weather conditions (rain), the early morning bird watching excursion may be substituted with an alternate activity.
To complete your vacation, we include roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing Collette airfare with your tour. If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times.
There will be one morning transfer from Arenal to the airport in San Jose on the last day of the tour.
Flights home must be booked after 2 PM.
Museum visits and shopping may be affected with observance of religious or local holidays.
The days and order of sightseeing may change to best utilize your time on tour.
This tour includes moderate physical activity. Walking tours, as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces should be expected. Some of the most unique sightseeing can mean accessing locations that restrict motor coaches, especially in historic areas. For your comfort, we recommend brining walking shoes. If you require a walker or wheelchair, or have difficulty walking, you may not be able to access some of these areas and may want to consider an alternate Collette vacation. Our travel counselors can provide additional information assistance to help you determine the perfect trip for you.
